Emotional Wellbeing in Winter
Simple supports I reach for in my practice during this time of year.

Simple supports I reach for in Winter in Minnesota can quietly wear on even the most resilient families. Short daylight hours, limited time outside, and a slower seasonal rhythm often show up as heavier emotions, lower motivation, anxious thinking, and a nervous system that feels harder to settle. In my work with families, I see this pattern every year, especially during winter, when emotional resilience and sleep patterns can fluctuate.
When I support emotional health during this season, I always begin with foundations first. One of the most important is vitamin D. With reduced sunlight exposure through much of the winter, many people simply are not producing enough on their own. I have worked with several clients who notice a very consistent pattern: emotional heaviness, low mood, and mental fatigue tend to show up around the same time each winter, and when vitamin D is added back in, the emotional weight often begins to lift. While vitamin D is well known for immune and bone health, it also plays an important role in nervous system and emotional regulation, making it a simple but powerful place to start during the darker months.
Alongside foundational support like vitamin D, I also use gentle emotional-balancing remedies when the nervous system feels overwhelmed or emotionally taxed. Two of my favorite tools in this season are Fields of Flowers and Homeobotanical Blend (Hb) Emotions. I often reach for Fields of Flowers when someone feels emotionally sensitive, fragile, or easily affected by the emotional atmosphere around them. It can be especially helpful when emotions feel close to the surface or when children and parents are absorbing stress from one another during busy or demanding weeks.
Hb Emotions is one I commonly use when emotional tension has built up over time. I find it particularly supportive when anxiety, persistent mental busyness, or emotional pressure begin to affect daily routines and family rhythms. It is a gentle way to support emotional processing and help the nervous system regain a steadier baseline, without needing to push or suppress what the body is already trying to work through.
My approach during winter is not about fixing emotions, but about supporting the body and nervous system so emotional balance can return naturally. By combining foundational support such as vitamin D with gentle emotional remedies like Fields of Flowers and Hb Emotions, I aim to meet both the physical and emotional needs that often surface during this season. If winter tends to be a challenging time for you or your children emotionally, these supports can be a simple and thoughtful way to care for your nervous system as we move toward longer, brighter days. Reach out if you’d like more information, I’d be glad to help you explore simple, supportive ways to navigate winter-related emotional stress.
